Children and Youth Day has created lifetime memories for our keiki, ‘ōpio and families, as well as opportunities for family members to connect with one another and other families. It also serves as a wonderful community resource to educate families about services that are available in our State in a fun-filled and life changing way. Over the years, our event has grown tremendously and has now become one of the largest community celebrations in the State. In 2019, approximately 30,000 people attended the event.
Children and Youth Day are constantly on the lookout for volunteers to provide much needed support. For 2023, we are in need of a variety of volunteers ranging from TV support, PR, Security and Safety, Clean-Up, Staffing, Parking Attendants, and so much more for both our TV Production and our In-Person Event being held on Sunday October 1, 2023.
Volunteers represent the bulk of each CYD event and are indispensable for their support. Be a part of our ‘ohana.
Q: How do I become a volunteer?
A: Register online and select a volunteer category or categories to get started. Once registered, you will be contacted by a CYD Planning Committee member in that oversees the volunteer category/categories you selected to arrange and schedule your support.
Q: What are the requirements to be a volunteer?
A: Volunteers can be of any age and either an individual, family or group. Certain volunteer categories do have certain physical requirements such as standing for long periods, walking, assembling, etc. Details will be communicated to the registered volunteer(s) by the CYD Planning Committee member.
Q: Can students of all ages get school credit for their service to CYD?
A: Yes, absolutely.
Q: How can I become a part of the CYD Planning Committee?
A: The Children and Youth Day Planning Committee consists of various volunteers and sponsors who have come together to make this all possible. Each month we meet to discuss agenda topics coordinated by the CYD Chairperson. Topics include budget, logistics, manpower, improvements, execution and status updates.
Q: What is a CYD Chair or Co-Chair?
A: Children and Youth Day is a huge event and is made possible by many volunteers, sponsors and participants. Within the CYD Planning Committee are Chairs who oversee certain CYD Categories that require a focal point to organize and execute tasks for desired outcomes and objectives. If you are interested in becoming a Chair or Co-Chair, please contact CYD’s fiscal administrator at (808) 262-3623 or info@hawaiicyd.org. We’d be happy to discuss what support is needed.
Q: My children would like to volunteer. Can they help CYD?
A: Yes! We encourage children and youth to be actively involved in the planning of this event. These opportunities underscore their valuable contributions to community; encourage the spirit of giving from the heart; and support leadership, organizational, social, and other life skills that are important in their lives.
Q: Who do I contact for more information on volunteering?
A: You can contact Kama‘aina Kids, our fiscal administrator, at (808) 262-3623 or info@hawaiicyd.org.
